Eastern River Cattle Co. is a 150 acre farm owned and operated by Jeff and Linda Biden on the banks of the beautiful Eastern River in Dresden, Maine, with the help of our Australian Cattle Dog, Tilly. We raise homegrown all natural beef and veal the old-fashioned way, with an emphasis on our animal’s well-being and gentle calm handling. At ERCC our animals are never given antibiotics or growth hormones, ever! In the summer our animals are fed from our lush clover pastures, then in the winter we buy locally grown, naturally processed hay.
All of our beef animals are grass fed for the first sixteen months, and then finished by adding (non-GMO) barley to their diet for two months before processing. Barley finishing adds a white fat to the meat, making a much more flavorful and tender cut. This grass feeding and barley finishing gives our customers the best possible combination; healthy, flavorful, and tender meat.
Our veal calves roam freely in our pastures at their mother’s sides their entire lives (never kept in a box) and are processed when they reach approximately three hundred pounds. After harvesting, we insist on our meat being hung to dry age for a minimum of two weeks before cutting and packaging.
